What’s simple, inexpensive, and still performing money magic in the eComm world? Email marketing… that’s what.
Although changes are constantly taking place in the digital space (almost as fast as junior high girls change boyfriends), one thing remains the same: email marketing is an effective way to make more money… even while you sleep.
As we enter into yet another year of economic uncertainty and instability, email is predicted to be a key element in your marketing strategy for 2023.
I know what you’re thinking: “Well, that’s great info, Dawn, but where do I even start? The thought of adding one more thing to my already overwhelming to-do list makes my head spin out of eComm control.”
I get it… and I’m here to help you.
But first, let’s talk about a phrase that might take the edge off of that surge of overwhelm you’re feeling right about now… Evergreen Email Sequence.
Evergreen email sequences are an automated series of emails you can use repeatedly without losing its effectiveness.
This means you write the email sequence once… and use it forever.
Now that doesn’t seem so bad, does it? One and done. Who doesn’t like the sound of that?
There are a number of evergreen email sequences that can deliver a profitability power punch, however, there are three I feel every eComm store owner should have as part of their marketing strategy:
-
-
- Abandoned Cart Sequence
- Fulfillment Sequence
- Buyer Sequence
-
Abandoned Cart Sequence
An abandoned cart sequence is an automated email reminder that is sent to someone who “adds to cart”, but doesn’t “process order”.
The average abandoned cart rate for eComm stores is around 70%. That’s a whole lot of money being left on the table screaming, “Who wants me?”.
Here’s the deal. You already have proof that they’re interested in your amazing product(s). An abandoned cart sequence is one more chance for you to seal the deal.
Typically this email sequence includes three short emails that create a sense of urgency, scarcity, and emphasize the product benefits. It’s never a bad idea to also include social proof, discounts, incentives, and imagery.
The more genuine, clever, and creative you can be, the better.
Fulfillment Sequence
Of the three, the fulfillment sequence is the most important. If this isn’t already a part of your order fulfillment process, please stop scrolling and start working on that ASAP. Go ahead, this blog post isn’t going anywhere.
Typically, most people will have just one fulfillment email that includes confirmation and details about their order. One email is certainly better than nothing.
But if you wanna squeeze the most out of it, create a fulfillment sequence of 3-5 emails. This is an opportunity for you to give them more information about other products they might like, as well as connect and build rapport with them.
Buyer Sequence
Unlike the abandoned cart and fulfillment sequences, the buyer sequence is a longer campaign with a broad strategic marketing approach. It’s obviously written to people who have already purchased something from you.
The intent is to focus on building your brand and a culture for your brand by sharing more product information, social proof, discounts, incentives, etc.
As cheesy as it sounds, if you build it… they will come.
And remember, one-and-done. Once these emails are written, set them on autopilot, sit back and watch them bring the cha-ching.
I guarantee that automated emails will make you more money.

Perhaps the idea of writing emails is enough to suck the life right out of you. Heck, writing anything at all feels like such a grueling task, you’d rather watch paint dry all day, e’ry day.
